Hello WhichBike community,

Recently got myself a new set of gloves for day to day riding & have been every impressed with comfort and manoeuvrability I wanted to share the joy.

The number of gloves on the market is huge and can be overwhelming. At least I found it overwhelming. I headed off to my local motorcycle store and started to look through all the gloves.

Before I dive into the review I guess your wondering why the fuss? A gloves a glove right? Well not always. A recent study by Liz de Rome, Rebecca Ivers, Michael Fitzharris, Wei Du, Narelle Haworth, Stephane Heritier & Drew Richardson 2011 found that a "substantial proportion of motorcycle designed gloves (25.7%), jackets (29.7%) and pants (28.1%) were assessed to have failed due to material damage in the crash. Conclusions: Motorcycle protective clothing is associated with reduced risk and severity of crash related injury and hospitalization, particularly when fitted with body armour. The proportion of clothing items that failed under crash conditions indicates a need for improved quality control." This was an astounding finding when you consider the amount of marketing & statements made about a number of gloves.

With that in mind along with how important our hands are to us for every day use, I figured some deeper evaluation on the bike glove was needed as a consumer.  Here in NSW, Australia the number of motorcycle accidents has increased by 43% between 2016 - 2010 (Motorcycle Council of NSW, 2010). Even though the time frame is 5 years old the increase is substantial with (speed being the biggest factor for the conditions, age of the rider however 61% of all accidents were caused by the other driver. Not surprising to any rider who experiences bad driver decisions & actions every day.

As I say when I got the store there were plenty of gloves on offer for all types of use across road & dirt-bike activities.  I soon found Five-Gloves on the wall and started to filter through the collection. I settled on the street glove, in particular, "Street Stunt Glove". The first thing I noticed was the stitching on the palm side of the glove. It was excellent. The degree of armour on the upper side and fingers was excellent.  The glove was very comfortable to wear and padding was well placed on the downside of all fingers with stitching not interfering with finger control / movement. I decided to buy them.

Had them for a little over a month and boy these are like a second skin. They breath very well on the bike and the extra padding/armour on the palms do not interfere with throttle or clutch control. They are super comfortable and despite not being a winter type glove they are warm as well.

So if you need a new set of gloves check out Five-Gloves if you can. Here is a link to their website if you want more information: http://five-gloves.com/

Respect & ride safe.

PS: I have not been paid by Five-Glove for this.

Aghhhh, gloves.. I HATE having to buy new gloves. I can never get the bloody things to fit me. Always tight or loose somewhere, or the fingers are too short, lor the velcro is crap, or they dont match my suit, or they dont bring out my eyes... :D
