I notice some riders onthe street have leathers with these humps on the back and googled images and seems mpst racers have them.
What are they, some sort of protection?

Back hump is to help air flow.
Normally there is a turbulent area at the back of the helmet. The hump fills that area so air can flow more evenly down the back.

Of course its only really useful when racing around 200mph so for road use its more cosmetic ;)

The good quality suits have them and they cannot be removed so it just means its a good suit.
I'm sure they would stay on even if they were removable ;)

Never knew that myself. I also thought it was some kind of head/neck safety thing.
I think I will pass on one of those on my future leather jacket purchase... would be emarrassing when I get passed my a scooter :D

Ha, you learn something new every day :D

Not exactly my scene. I am old school and the only leather should be black and as worn by the likes of Marlon Brando.:p
