KTM RC8 guy

Hi all,

Been riding about 19 years on and off.

Previous bikes include:
Honda VFR400
Honda CBR 600F
Suzuki GSXR 600 SRAD
Suzuki GSXR 600 RR K4

Now on KTM RC8 which is a whole different beast.

Looking forward to the 2015 season (Yes, I'm a fair weather rider)
If you ever go to Boxhill, Dorking and see a black & white RC8 (see avatar) then please say 'hi'.

Some vids: https://www.youtube.com/user/evandavies1

Cheers,

ED

Only ever seen one KTM RC8 - friggin rare.

Is it less reliable than the usual japos?
Id be a bit scared to buy something more ununsual if it was my main bike.

Isnt it a litre bike or does the 8 actually mean its an 800 ?

leftturnclyde: Yeah its a unique design that I like a lot. Bit of a 'marmite' look; people either love it or hate it ;)

FullRevs: Its been reliable so far (touch wood) I use it for commuting sometimes but its mainly a weekend fun bike so if it does need work it won't be terrible.
Even though its called 1190 its actually 1148cc (about 150bhp). The newer 'R' version has several improvements including 1190cc (about 170bhp)
I don't know where the 8 comes from.

Ade: I don't like bicycles :p If you see me there then say 'hi' but identify yourself first otherwise things could get nasty :D

Eek. I used to get wound up by cycles when in a car as I am an impatient sod but am over it now only because I am a cyclist.
Not a problem when on the motorbike!

Thats probably the most ideal level of power for the road really.
I cant get my head around why anybody makes bikes with 200 horse power, whats the point... just silly.
Better off concentrating on the user experience.

Unfortunately cycles can be deadly for motorbikes as well because several times I've come around a corner and there's a line of cars behind a bike doing 12mph or less.
Couple of weeks ago I was nearly taken out by a cyclist who started swerving into the middle of the lane (I think he had a foot problem) just as I went past. I was doing about 50mph and missed him by centimetres.
I honestly think that cycles are a danger to themselves and others. I cycle to the station every day but on the pavement. (I'd rather get a ticket than injury/death)

Absolutely. I haven't even come close to using the 150 horses. It would either flip the bike or get me killed really fast.
(Its a funny thought having 150 horses crammed in that engine space ;)

I certainly enjoy going through twisties MUCH more than going fast in a straight line.

Yep, have you seen a 1299 Panigale in the flesh? Supposed to have 205 HP !! but looks pretty similar in size to Ninja 300 - amazing what they can do these days.

Where is all the power on an RC8? low, middle or high, or all of the above :o

Yes, I've seen the Panigale 1299 and it does look like a 600 size. Crazy power/weight ratio. Of course almost everyone buys a bike based on the looks they prefer and the performance they can boast about ;) Very few take it to the track to see what it can really do.
(Speaking of which, I would love to arrange a track day with anyone based in the South East, Brands or Goodwood)

RC8 power is Low to mid range. Loses out a bit at higher revs to the inline fours.

Damn, best quote I have seen for ages. That is SOOOOOOOOO right.

People can get and give advice, read reviews, watch videos, even get recommened the best bike to match their actual needs but it all comes down to vanity, ego and just simple preference.

People are more fussy about their bikes than their women... :D
